My name is Aaron..., I’m a Green Morey eel although my color is really brown! The yellow tint of the mucus that covers my body, in a combination with the drab background color, that gives me a characteristic uniform green color. My muscular, scale less body is laterally compressed (flattened side to side). My dorsal and anal fins are continuous with the short tail, or caudal fin, giving me an appearance of a single fin running from the top of the head, along the back, around the tail, and underneath forward to mid-body. I have neither pelvic nor pectoral fins. I have conspicuous, tube-like nostrils and finds my prey mostly using its sense of smell.
I market my sales in the western Atlantic Ocean from New Jersey to Bermuda and the northern Gulf of Mexico southward to Brazil along mangrove roots, along rocky shorelines, and within coral reefs. I have very few natural predators. With my long, scale less body, I’m often feared and mistaken for a sea serpent. I am a sit-and-wait predator with strong teeth. Rather than hunting for my food, I relax an wait until food comes to me! My bite is not poisonous, but may cause infection. Part of my vicious reputation may come from the fact that I habitually open and close my mouth. Although this behavior may appear threatening, I am actually taking in water to breathe. The water passes over my gills and exits through vent-like openings at the back of my head. Next time you’re in the area casting your net and you see me with my mouth open don’t be scared just want to work out a DEAL!!!
